Bill began his career as a trumpet soloist in Hugh Fraser’s award winning ensemble The Vancouver Ensemble of Jazz Improvisation (VEJI) in 1980. Since that time, Bill has been featured both as a composer and trumpet player in a diverse array of Vancouver’s most prominent commercial, jazz and creative music ensembles. His own hard-driving group, The Bill Clark Sextet, has played all the major Canadian jazz festivals. In the spring of 2002, Bill toured Canada with the Chris Tarry Collective Conscience in support of the Juno nominated CD, Battles of Unknown Mysteries. Bill’s most recent project is the Burrows/Clark/ Taylor improvisational ensemble featuring guitarist/multi-instrumentalist Jared Burrows and Bill’s long time associate Stan Taylor on percussion. Currently Bill is working towards a Masters degree in Improvisation Studies with Wadada Leo Smith at the California institute of the Arts.
